Compound Bow Set-up and Tuning

Tuning advice is aimed mainly at two-wheeled* bows shot with release aids, although single-cam* bows and finger shooters are dealt with wherever I have the necessary knowledge or experience.

DIAGRAMS/PHOTOGRAPHS WILL FOLLOW LATER.

*  I use the words 'cam' and 'wheel' interchangeably here, unless it is obvious that I am trying to differentiate them.

This section offers advice at three levels: basic set-up, standard tuning and advanced tuning.

  • Basic set-up is just what it sounds like: the basic information anyone wanting to shoot a compound bow must know and be able to put into practice if they are to have any chance of success.

  • Standard tuning is the level that I would advise every archer to attempt:  the tried-and-tested things that definitely make a difference.

  • Advanced tuning is the sort of 'super-tuning' that you may or may not wish to try (and frankly, may or may not work) along with technical discussion of some of the more complex issues.

I have also included a section to help you track down some of the commoner, if more puzzling faults.
